Being a pediatric dentist is one of my greatest passions and has been my life’s work. It allows me to provide children with a great smile that will positively impact their self-esteem, and confidence, aid in general wellbeing, and help to set them on a path for a bright and healthy future. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to experience the benefits of being under the care of a great pediatric dentist firsthand. I try to emulate that very positive personal experience with a dental care professional in my own image, knowing how important it is to establish those relationships and habits at a young age. Like a harbor that provides a haven for a ship, a caring and positive pediatric practice should be a safe place to set children on a course for lifelong dental health.
I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and stayed there to attend the University of Michigan for both my Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees. Go Blue! Following dental school, I was accepted into the University of Minnesota’s Pediatric Dental Residency program to specialize in pediatric dental care. The residency provided me with significant experience in the comprehensive treatment of children and adolescents; including those living with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and complex medical conditions. My team and I are able to provide exceptional care for our patients, in part, because of this strong, first-rate education.
One of the most significant philosophies that I learned throughout my dental training is the importance of lifelong learning. To that end, I continue to maintain my Board Certification in Pediatric Dentistry through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Additionally, I continue to partake in continuing education opportunities through the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. This ensures that my practice and I treat every patient to the highest standard of care and that that care is based on the most up-to-date and cutting-edge practices.
Outside of pediatric dentistry, I enjoy being as active as possible in and around the Queen City. I can often be found hiking the trails and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains, locked in a competitive tennis match, water skiing on Lake Norman, or jogging on one of Charlotte’s many greenways. I also have a passion for classic automobiles and have been known to spend an entire weekend under the hood of whatever my latest vintage car is.
At Harbor Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. John and our team recognize that all children are unique and have individual sensitivities. If your child is apprehensive, we take the time to help them understand what we do during their appointment. Additionally, we are available to talk with you to address any questions you may have prior to your child’s appointment. Please feel free to contact us during office hours and one of our friendly and knowledgeable team members will be more than happy to assist you.
A pediatric dentist is a specialist who cares for children’s oral health much like a pediatrician does their overall health. Dr. John became a pediatric dentist after earning his general dentistry degree, then going through an additional two years of specialized pediatric dental training, and finally completing the rigorous pediatric board certification process. Just like your child’s pediatrician, Dr. John has the rigorous training and specialty resources to make sure that your child receives the highest standard of comprehensive care geared toward their age and stage of development.
In addition to specialized training, our office was specifically designed to provide pediatric dental care in a relaxing and stress-free environment. From the calming white and blue colors of the walls to the whimsical and nautical-themed artwork and the smaller size of the chairs and instruments we use, our office provides the best environment for your child to establish a positive, prevention-focused relationship with the dentist. Whether it’s cleanings, exams, fillings, or other restorative treatment, Dr. John has the best training in the newest and advancing technologies for your child.
